I spend last Christmas living in a hotel. And my birthday. And Valentine's Day. Due to an unfortunate water leak two floors above me at my rental, I lived at the Homewood Suites for over two months. Note: if you don't have renter's insurance - GET RENTER'S INSURANCE! Allstate hooked me up at the Suites which was safe, clean, etc. Living at the Suites built character and was a great learning experience and was sometimes funny and sometimes a little tragic... and it made me a Hilton Diamond rewards member. And I'll be taking my Diamond level self to the Hilton in Hakone.
I lived in Japan for two years as an English teacher, but I was on the other side of the mountains in Toyama-ken so I've never been to Hakone (or Mt. Fuji.) The more I read about Hakone, the more excited I am about going there. It's possible to do as a day trip from Tokyo, but a lot of people do stay overnight there as well. I'll be going in winter which isn't exactly prime tourist season, but what I've read online suggests that almost everything is open all year round... assuming that there isn't a massive snowstorm. On my last trip to Tokyo, my main out of town excursion was to Tokyo Disneysea which is technically in Chiba prefecture so it wasn't exactly heavy lifting. I'm excited to take things up a notch with this little trip to Hakone, thanks to Hilton! I'm looking forward to onsen, beautiful scenery and hopefully Hakone Hello Kitty merchandise.
(And yes, it's still months and months until my trip, but I am so looking forward to it.)
