I am not smitten with any humans lately, but I am quite smitten with my Smitten quilt work in progress. I don't usually buy patterns - I generally prefer to use traditional quilt blocks/patterns or just do my own thing... but when I saw the Smitten quilt and found out that a paper pieced kit was available from my beloved paperpieces.com, I was so in! As with most of the delightfully scrappy quilts I love, this one is from Australia. It was designed by Lucy Carson Kingwell. I ordered my pattern and paper templates from paperpieces.com - it's also possible to piece the quilt without English paper piecing, but the thought of all those y-seams and bias edges sounds really unpleasant to me. It's been a lot of fun pulling together tons of fabrics for this. While there are some very tiny pieces in the quilt, there are also some big guys so it's easy to see progress and it's fun checking out other people's quilts with the #smittenquilt hashtag on Instagram.
Lots of interesting craft happenings around here. One of my friends who I taught English with in Japan back in the day now owns a vintage clothing shop/warehouse in Brooklyn. (Yes, she is cooler than me and yes, I want her life!) She has offered to send a box of vintage fabric scraps and let me have my way with them! I have a few other things on my to do list before I'm ready for the vintage box o' fun, but come fall, I'm thinking vintage quilting is going to be happening.
